Description
The Renault Kwid electronic throttle body regulates the amount of air entering the 1.0L 3-cylinder engine when you press the accelerator pedal.
Function & Location
- What it does: Controls engine airflow to manage acceleration, idling, and overall fuel efficiency.
- Where it sits: Mounted directly on the engine between the air filter box and the intake manifold.
- Common failure signs: Rough idling, loss of power, engine hesitation, or unexpected stalling.
Mechanism of Action
- Signal processing: Pressing the accelerator pedal sends a voltage signal to the ECU.
- Valve actuation: The ECU commands an internal electric motor inside the throttle body to open or close a butterfly valve (plate).
- Air-fuel adjustment: A built-in Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) tracks the exact angle of the valve and reports back to the ECU, which then meters the correct amount of fuel injection.
Specifications
- Operating Voltage: 12 volts [1]
- Control Note: Replacement or deep cleaning often requires an idle relearn procedure or software update via an OBD scanner to match factory ECU specifications
