RENAULT KWID BR10 OIL CONTROL VALVE

R895.00

Description

The oil control valve on the Renault Kwid’s 1.0L BR10 engine is also known as the VVT (Variable Valve Timing) solenoid, and it regulates engine oil pressure to adjust camshaft timing for optimal fuel efficiency and performance
Location & Function
  • Where it is: Mounted on the cylinder head near the top of the engine close to the valve cover/camshaft area.

  • What it does: Acts as an electro-hydraulic gate. It uses engine oil pressure directed by the ECU (Engine Control Unit) to advance or retard valve timing.

Symptoms of a Faulty Oil Control Valve

  • Check Engine Light: ECU throws variable valve timing or correlation error codes.

  • Rough Idling: Engine stumbles, drops RPMs, or stalls when stopping.

  • Poor Fuel Economy: Inefficient combustion due to stuck valve timing.

  • Valvetrain Noise: A ticking or rattling noise caused by low oil flow or sticking plungers.

Maintenance & Replacement Tips

  • Clean Oil is Vital: Dirty oil or delayed oil changes cause sludge build-up in the small internal screens of the valve, blocking oil flow. Always use clean, recommended oil grades.

  • Testing: A mechanic can test the internal electrical resistance using a multimeter or apply 12V directly from a battery to check if the internal valve clicks open and closed
